Double Diamond X Ranch is seeking to fill three positions starting late May 2018.
We're looking for a Cook/Kitchen Manager to lead the DDX farm-to-table dining program. This program integrates local, organic agriculture into a scratch kitchen environment and relies heavily on ranch-grown organic heirloom produce and herbs, and locally-raised organic meats. The Cook/Kitchen Manager is responsible for all aspects of daily preparation of dinner for our guests, including preparation of a weekly open-fire cookout. Daily responsibilities typically include harvest and preparation of produce, preparation of house-made dressings and sauces, quality preparation of high-volume items such as steak and specialty burgers, tracking of ingredient needs, and creative use of freshly available ingredients in a nightly entree of the cook's choosing. Occasional responsibilities may include curing or cold-smoking of meats or cheeses, and event catering. Another key responsibility of the Cook/Kitchen Manager is to oversee maintenance of a clean and organized kitchen and dining area. This is a seasonal position extending from late-May through mid September, with the possibility of yearly renewal. Room and all utilities, along with tips and compensation commensurate with experience, will be provided.
The ideal applicant for this position is someone who considers him- or herself to be a passionate cook, and who has interest in being a part of a true farm-to-table operation. We're looking for someone who is energetic, friendly, outgoing, and who has a good sense of humor!
A position is available for a friendly, energetic and outgoing person to serve dinner in the dining hall and assist in preparation of cabins for incoming guests. The person hired for this position is responsible for all aspects of dinner service, including taking orders, serving, bussing, dish sanitizing, and dining area maintenance. Cabin preparation will involve cleaning, bed-making, and laundry duties. This position runs from late May through mid September. Room and all utilities, along with tips and compensation commensurate with experience, will be provided.
Fly fishing/hiking guide
We're looking for a fly fishing and hiking guide starting in mid or late May running through mid September, possibly extending into October. The guide will lead guests in stream-side walking-wading fly fishing tours on the South Fork of the Shoshone River as it runs through the Ranch. Fishing tours focus on helping guests learn about the timing and types of insect hatches and how they affect angler success, and on assisting guests in catching wild trout. The guide will also lead interpretive hiking tours on the adjacent Shoshone National Forest and Washakie Wilderness that are are designed to inform guests about the region's flora and fauna, historic landscape processes, geology, and conservation issues such as endangered or invasive species. The fly fishing/hiking guide will also be expected to perform other hospitality-related duties such as assisting with orienting guests and providing assistance with events and evening functions. Room and all utilities, along with tips and compensation commensurate with experience, will be provided.
In addition to fly fishing and guiding experience, applicants should have a solid background in the management and conservation of fish and wildlife in the greater Yellowstone region, as well as an understanding of landscape processes and conservation issues that are important in the area. A passion for fly fishing and wilderness hiking is a must. The Ranch is in grizzly bear country so proficiency with bear spray and firearms is a plus. Most importantly, hospitality is the focus of Double Diamond X Ranch, so applicants must be energetic, outgoing, friendly, patient, and have a good sense of humor.
